An Afro-American man with dental pain.

It would be wonderful if you managed to keep all your permanent teeth throughout your life. They were designed to last a lifetime. Unfortunately, most people have lost at least 12 of their permanent teeth when they reach their 50s. By the time the average person reaches their 70th birthday, about 30% or more of their teeth will be missing.

Regular dental checkups can minimize the conditions that lead to tooth loss. However, when you have a tooth that needs to be extracted, you want it removed with gentle care and compassion. This is what we strive for at Mint Dental. We do all we can to help save your natural teeth; but when a tooth needs to come out, we work to make the procedure as comfortable and efficient as possible.

People experience tooth loss for one of several reasons. Most often it is due to severe decay. When caught in time, even a badly decayed tooth may be saved. When the damage to the tooth is severe, it will need to be removed. A tooth may also need removal if the patient has severe periodontal or gum disease. This condition could cause an infection that can dissolve the bone tissue surrounding the tooth. This makes the tooth unstable in its socket. Trauma to the mouth can also result in an injury that may require one or more teeth to be extracted.

Pain-free Tooth Extractions

The process of removing a tooth may involve pressure to loosen it from the socket. Depending on the cause and circumstances, some teeth require less effort than others to remove. For example, anterior teeth have only one root, making them generally easier to extract. Molars, on the other hand, have a few roots. Sometimes the roots can be solidly embedded in the bone or curled around the bone. These conditions require more effort to remove.

You will receive the amount of anesthesia needed to eliminate pain during the procedure. If necessary, we can also administer sedation to help you achieve a deeper state of relaxation. This often helps patients who mistake the sensation of pressure for pain.

Tooth extraction does not need to be painful. At Mint Dental, one of our top priorities is to ensure our patients’ comfort. Contact our dental practice in Pearl when you need an extraction. Schedule your appointment for painless tooth removal.
